Traffic School Q & A

You must have received a minor moving violation, and you must have received a notice from the DMV containing a list of licensed courses you can enroll in. If you have yet to receive the notice from the Court or are uncertain about your eligibility, you can contact the Court directly to inquire and clarify your status.

You should not have attended traffic school within the last 18 months to be able to take traffic school again.

You cannot take traffic school if you possess a commercial driver’s license and receive a ticket while operating a commercial vehicle. However, if you received your ticket while operating your personal vehicle, you may be eligible to take Traffic School; you can contact the Court directly to inquire and clarify your status.

Your ticket is not eligible for traffic school if your ticket was given due to alcohol or drug-related offenses.

You should contact the Court if you want to attend traffic school; the clerk or judge will provide you with a deadline to complete the traffic school program. You’ll need to pay for your ticket and the traffic school fees to the Court. Afterward, sign up and pay for a traffic school program provided by an approved traffic school.

The difference lies in the delivery method of the traffic school program. The online program makes all the study materials and final test accessible through your online account. Upon completing the program and passing the final test, your traffic school completion will be automatically submitted to the Court. On the other hand, with the home study book option, you’ll order the book online, and a physical copy of the materials and final test will be mailed to you. After finishing the program and sending back the completed final test for grading, the office will submit the traffic school completion to the Court.

The online material consists of eleven chapters, which you can read at your own pace. At the end of each chapter, short quizzes test your understanding. Your progress is securely saved in your account, allowing you to log in and out anytime. Upon completing all chapters, there is a final test consisting of 25 questions. If you pass the final test with a minimum grade of 70% (18 correct answers), the system will submit your traffic school completion to the Court. However, if you fail on the first attempt, you’ll have one more chance to retake the test.

The home-study Booklet can be ordered online or picked up at the office. The Traffick School booklet has eleven chapters that can be read at your own pace.

Upon receiving your booklet, you must thoroughly read and study its contents. When you feel prepared, fill out your name and Driver’s license information as requested on each final test page. Proceed to take the final test, which comprises 25 questions. Sign and date the last page before sending it back to our office for grading. Upon passing the final test with a minimum grade of 70% (18 correct answers), we will submit your traffic school completion to the Court. In case you don’t pass the final test on the first attempt, you’ll have an opportunity for a second attempt. We will mail you a second final test to your house.

After paying the fees for your ticket and traffic school to the Court, they will give a due date or deadline to finish traffic school.

If you complete your traffic school program, you don’t get the point added to your DMV record (if you have a noncommercial driver’s license). However, rules differ for individuals with commercial Driver’s licenses.
